Human Rights Guide launch event in Georgia

The Human Rights Guide platform for Georgia was unveiled on 17th November this year at the Holiday Inn’s conference hall in Tbilisi. GYLA (the Foundation for the Support of Legal Education or FSLE) and the Baltic Human Rights Society held this presentation event for the Georgian Human Rights Guide to attract the community’s attention to this matter.

Honoured guests at the event included Edīte Medne, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to Georgia, Ioseb Edisherashvili, the President of the Foundation for the Support of Legal Education, and Nino Bagashvili the Coordinator of the Human Rights Guide in Georgia.

The Human Rights Guide is a unique European digital platform, which provides the opportunity to find out about human rights in everyday situations and examples. It offers resources and tools to assist members of the community and professionals to acquire knowledge about human rights. The platform is accessible in 10 European countries, including Georgia. The Human Rights Guide was created based on the principle that everybody has a right to know about their rights.

During the event, the Latvian ambassador to Georgia, Edīte Medne, shared an important view about the significance of education on human rights and the need to consolidate this area. The President of the Foundation for the Support of Legal Education expressed his appreciation to the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Latvia and the Baltic Human Rights Society for their support in the introduction of the Human Rights Guide in Georgia.

After the opening speech, Nino Bagashvili, the Coordinator of the Human Rights Guide in Georgia, provided a detailed presentation about the project, its goals and the technical possibilities of the platform. Education expert Maria Kadagidze, civil society representative Lela Džavahišvili and other experts from the sector took part in a discussion following the speeches.

The event was shown on Georgian television, as well as on social media. A review of the event and further information about the unveiling of the Guide in Georgia is available on social media.  The Georgian Human Rights Guide itself is available on-line in the Georgian, Russian and English languages on the humanrightsguide.ge site, as well as on the common European platform humanrights.guide.

Further activities associated with the Human Rights Guide in Georgia are planned as part of Human Right Week, which will take place from 5th to 8th December 2023. Separate meetings have also been planned with state and educational institutions, providing a broader opportunity to find out about the potential of the Human Rights Guide and the opportunities for its use.

We express thanks to all supporters and participants who have contributed to the successful introduction of this project in Georgia.

The Human Rights Guide in Georgia was created by non-government organizations, the Baltic Human Rights Society and GYLA [the Foundation for the Support of Legal Education] with financial support from the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Latvia within the framework of the “Inclusive Education on Human Rights – the Path to Good Governance and Democratic Participation” developmental cooperation project.
