BHRS joins international community to support achieving SGD target 4.7

On 6-7 November, BHRS joined 200 global education experts — national, European and global civil society actors, government representatives, academics and politicians at the ENVISION 4.7 Conference in Helsinki to discuss a joint roadmap on achieving Target 4.7 of the Universal Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). BHRS and the DARE Network were represented by Ms. Agnese Koligina-Balode. The conference was also attended by Ms. Ilze Dalbiņa, Head of Education of UNESCO Latvian National Commission and Ms. Dace Melnbārde, Member of the European Parliament.

The target 4.7 concerning the global education provides:

“By 2030 ensure all learners acquire knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including among others through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship, and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development.”

The participants called on the European Union, Council of Europe and European countries to be forerunners in adopting and implementing policies which respect human rights and address key global challenges of the 21st century, such as climate change, poverty, inequality, resource depletion and quality of life.
