BHRS' Partners Host a Series of Successful Workshops in Moldova

As part of its long-term human rights education programme, the Baltic Human Rights Society (BHRS) is pleased to announce the successful implementation of key outreach events in the Republic of Moldova this past spring and summer.

In close collaboration with our local partner, Human Rights Embassy, a series of targeted workshops were conducted to launch and demonstrate the Human Rights Guide, a freely accessible online platform designed to make human rights knowledge practical and understandable.

The workshops in Moldova engaged a diverse range of stakeholders, from key state human rights institutions to vital civil society groups.

The series began on May 15, 2025, with a workshop for employees of the Office of the Equality Council of the Republic of Moldova. The Human Rights Embassy team provided a comprehensive overview of the Guide, explaining how legal practitioners and human rights experts can leverage the platform for their work on human rights. Participants gave positive feedback, particularly highlighting the Guide's powerful feature for conducting comparative analysis of legislation and case law across the eleven European countries that are part of the Guide’s Network and already have the localized version of the Guide available in their countries.

Just five days later, on May 20, 2025, a second workshop was held for the staff of the Office of the People's Advocate (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Moldova. The event saw significant engagement, with Deputy Ombudsman Oksana Gumennaia and other staff members participating both in-person and online from regional offices. Experts detailed how the Guide can serve as a multifaceted tool for the Ombudsman's office - assisting with beneficiary consultations, streamlining the preparation of reports, informing legislative proposals, and strengthening human rights education projects.

Demonstrating the Guide’s vital role at the grassroots level, a third workshop took place on July 5, 2025, at the B. P. Hasdeu Municipal Library. This session was tailored for the Initiative Group of Ukrainian Community Mediators in Moldova, comprised of alumni from previous projects supporting Ukrainian women displaced by the war. The discussion focused on how the Guide can empower community mediators to resolve issues and effectively advise beneficiaries. The participants valued the platform's unified, multi-country approach, noting its practical use for refugees who may need to understand the legal landscapes of other potential host nations.

These events in Moldova show the versatility of the Guide, proving its value to a wide spectrum of users - from strengthening the institutional capacity of state bodies to empowering community leaders working directly with vulnerable populations.
