The Human Rights Guide — a human rights education and a self-help platform created by the Baltic Human Rights Society (BHRS) continues to be expanded and is reaching more and more people. In May 2019, the Bulgarian version of the platform was launched, and has now become accessible to the seven million people living in Bulgaria.

The opening event took place at the premises of the European Commission in Sofia, Bulgaria on 29 May 2019. The event was opened by the Chairman of the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee Mr. Krasimir Kanev who presented the Guide and its functions and the opportunities that it provides. The choice of the themes was explained as well, substantiating the importance of these themes in Bulgaria. The Executive Director of BHRS, Ms. Agnese Koligina-Balode explained the experience with the Human Rights Guide in the Baltic States.

The event was very well received, with the active participation of those attending. The speeches were followed by questions from media representatives, and information about the Guide was widely shared in the local media. The Guide will serve as a catalyst for promoting cooperation between the state and non-governmental sector for further work on a sustainable human rights education strategy in Bulgaria.

The preparation of the Bulgarian version of the Guide was already commenced early in 2018 by BHRS in cooperation with the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee, with eight themes being prepared. Work on the extension of the Guide with new human rights themes that are important for Bulgaria will be continued in the coming years as well, with the support of the Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership Programme and other donors.
