Cooperation

BHRS joins the LAPAS network

Founded in 2004, the Latvian Platform for Development Cooperation (LAPAS) is a national level platform that brings together more than 40 different non-governmental organisations working for societal resilience and sustainable global development. As of 2024, BHRS is also a member of LAPAS.

In 2023 Baltic Human Rights successfully started the cooperation with LAPAS and become its member of as of January 2024. The vision of LAPAS includes mutual cooperation. LAPAS makes the world a safer and more sustainable place through its active engagement. Global crises mark a path of continuous change in which human responsibility, community resilience and the involvement of civil society organisations play a critical role.

In the framework of promoting development cooperation, BHRS has successfully started its activities in the Eastern Partnership countries since 2022: Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia. The Human Rights Guide platform was successfully launched in all three countries at the end of 2023.

In order to elaborate and dissminate the platform in these countries, active cooperation between the partner organisations, state and academic institutions was fostered during the development process. As part of the dissemination of the platform, in autumn 2023, representatives of the EaP countries' organisations met with BHRS representatives in Tbilisi, Georgia.

As European Union candidate countries, it is crucial for Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia to receive support on human rights issues. This promotes and strengthens national human rights standards and gives the public the opportunity to educate themselves on important human rights processes.

As LAPAS and its members also focus on development cooperation in Eastern European countries, BHRS's participation in this organisation will bring new opportunities to promote development cooperation at an even higher and broader level.
